NSSA Hawaii Event #3
Presented by RVCA
National Scholastic Surfing Assn.
Lahaina Harbor, Maui
14 - 15 August 2010
A beautiful day with fun waves in the 2 foot range
NSSA Hawaii Event # 3 went off on the Island of Maui at Lahaina Harbor on August 14-15 with stunning weather and rippable 2-3 foot surf on offer the entire weekend. All of the kids must have been having fun because we had lots of 9’s and perfect 10 scores being thrown.
Lot’s of surfers were delivering standout performances including EJ Mitsui who has been putting his name on the map and has been unstoppable in the Open Men’s division for two straight contests. EJ stepped up huge again at Lahaina Harbor locking in his second consecutive Open Men’s victory. A huge congrats to EJ for the red-hot month he is having! Dax McGill rose to the occasion taking double wins in the Open and Explorer Women division!
Dax really raised the bar in the Explorer Womens final where she posted a near perfect 9.0 in the last few minutes of the heat to seal the win. Kain Daly was at the top of his game putting on a great performance in the event clinching double wins in the Open Juniors and Explorer Mens.
In the Open Boys and Explorer Menehuenes, Kaulana Apo was on fire claiming both finals. Honolua Blomfield made three finals while showing off her smooth and stylish longboard skills en route to the victory in the Open Longboard final. 10-year-old Finn McGill has been showing off his talent this season making three finals at this contest and taking the win in the Open Mini Groms.
The “STAND OUT AWARD” of the event was awarded to Maui boy Imaikalani DeVault who surfed an near perfect heat in the Explorer Boys final posting a perfect 10 and a 9.5 for an excellent 19.5 total score out of a possible 20. Imai received movie passes for his spectacular surfing display in the final.
We would like to thank everyone for coming out and enjoying the NSSA HAWAII event at Lahaina Harbor. A huge thanks to the Daly’s for always having the perfect contest set up and accommodations for us. Also much gratitude to Uncle John and Aunty Donna for all the yummy kind grinds! Special thanks to the Pioneer Inn for always being so cool to all of the NSSA surfers!
Thank you NSSA Hawaii Sponsors: Xcel, Aloha Kine, Bubble Gum, Kalani Robb, Jason Nalu Bogle, Surfco Hawaii, ASP Hawaii and the Honu Group
