Hello kiters! I’ve not forgotten you. As many of you have friend~ed me and are in my personal Facebook network you may have noticed that I’ve been busy with a number of techie stuff specially when the Fall season hit. There are a lot of interesting things happening in the tech world that I am also very much a part of. As kiters who are mostly progressive and into tech, I thought you may be interested to learn about these two new exciting products specific for kiters.

Trakdat is a great way to log your kiteboarding sessions!

What I like About Trakdat

  • Trakdat is a great way to log your sessions, duration and performance. I would use it as a way to track progress, for example if I am working on a trick, learning to go upwind or trying to increase endurance.
  • Of course you can invite friends on Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or an email invite. Tracking your session is more fun when you can share it with friends.
  • You can add the geo-location coordinates of the spot where you kited. A good way to remember for future sessions and to share with friends who are looking to discover other kite spots.

Before you can start using Trakdat it does require you to enter your gear information. Perhaps a way to stay true to the content and the users of the site. No gear, no access to session tracking and checking-in! From a user-experience perspective I would ask this upfront upon registration. Perhaps make it easier for the user to enter their gear information by pulling from an existing database of gear information with images and photos.

From the user-interface it does not look like a user can search for other users. One can’t compare their sessions and kite spots. Perhaps the feature is available once I add friends from my network, which I have not done. Todate, there are 1,228 sessions logged and 172 spots recorded on Trakdat! You can download the mobile site version of the site as well. An iphone app is coming very soon!

I first heard about TrakDat during the last MaiTai Sports event in Maui. Jason Fass an avid Third Avenue and Sherman kiter in the San Francisco/Bay Area is the Founder of TrakDat.

iKiteGlobal Mobile App

Kitesurfing Mobile Travel Guide

Version 1.0 release is truly not more than a catalog in the app store. If you are not the type who likes to do detailed research and plan for your exotic kite trips around the globe this app may work for you. But if you are the type who OCD’s over a trip to an exotic spot you have not visited to kite and hang out with your friends and love ones, you may want more information than this app offers. The app is not engaging at this time. Users can leave comments about the content listed, but are not allowed to submit spots they discover on their own.

I think it is useful for a basic search of kite spots around the world to short-list before you actually pick the spot/s you’d like to see.

I bought it anyway for $2.99 to show my support for the effort! It does showcase a ton of great photos contributed by a number of your favorite kite photographers around the world!

What else Is New At Just Kite It?

Besides the hectic tech schedule, there are a few things that are happening at Just Kite It. I can’t share much information at this time, but soon I will be. It is pretty exciting in a sense that we will be opening a new chapter and pursue the initial ideas that I have for the destination site. Watch or more news very soon!

And yes, I try to kite in between the busy tech schedule and bi-coastal living. Excited to try some of the new gear coming out! Had a blast at the recent Mystic Fashion Show. Drool, drool on the new collection!

Enjoy the Fall season and happy kiting wherever the wind blows you!
