Not many players get to experience being in a championship game throughout their whole softball playing life. Even less players are able to say they've one a tournament. I've been playing baseball/softball for eleven years now and have only played in four championship games. I consider myself extremely lucky to say I've won one of these games; the most recent one I've played in.
All four of these games have been with the same team. When we finally won our first softball tournament together it was the best feeling I've ever had. The first three times when we lost it was heartbreaking. We played 7 games within two gays. We're all died tired and somehow we're still pushing ourselves to the best of our capabilities. When pushing yourself to the limit falls short it's devastating.
I guess this shows us it's true what they say: You must learn to loose before you can learn to win. A lot of people would think that we would choke the fourth time around in the finals of a tournament because we lost the first three times. But we learned from our past experiences and came out with success this time.
The most important thing that gave me drive to want to success is that my coaches never stopped believing in us. They kept faith and knew that we could pull off a win. That's what separates a good coach from a great coach. A good coach will pick 13 girls and make them a team. A great coach will pick 13 girls and make them a family. A good coach will make sure that every individual believes that they can succeed on the field. A great coach will make sure everybody believe they can succeed together on the field and in life, even the coach themselves.
It will be teams that are more like families that will have success in tournaments. It's always to good teams who make it to a championship game of a tournament. But the team who will mostly win is the team who has become a family. So, if you're a coach looking for success, to get it you must be a great coach and be the coach of a family.
