I like all kinds of music. I have a pretty eclectic playlist and love hearing music live. One of the great treasures in Los Angeles is the Cal Plaza Grand Performances series. Now in it’s 25th year, it’s a series of free summer concerts curated by a group of savvy musicologists and featuring a lot of global and historic acts.

Last night, we bought a couple of burritos at the Ye Old Taco House, rode the Angel’s Flight Funicular (the world’s shortest railway and at 25 cents a true bargain) up to the plaza (btw nearby Angel’s Knoll is famously captured in “500 Days of Summer” but I digress) and were introduced to an opening act I had never heard of though she’s considered an LA icon. Phranc is a self-described All-American Jewish Lesbian Princess and a folksinger who straddled the punk movement. To top it off, she’s also a swimmer and surfer.

Anyway, here’s one of the songs she sang that you all might find fun. It needs to be updated so the question is, how would you contemporize the lyrics?

Give me a pair of pectorals like Diana Nyad
I wanna swim 89 miles
Give me a set of deltoids like Tracy Caulkins
I wanna be strong like those Amazons
I wanna learn to dribble like Annie Meyers
I wanna learn to shoot like Cheryl Miller…..
