The 100th Australian Open, which kicked off Monday in Melbourne, marks the start of the 2012 Grand Slam season and Nike’s sending three ladies – Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Li Na – in fresh new gear.

Sharapova hit the court wearing the Nike Maria Statement Slam Dress in white and neon green featuring high impact built-in bra and unique details like slits with contrast mesh underlay on sides and back. Also from her collection, Sharapova wears a pair of Lunar Speed 3 lowtops.

Serena Williams described her Nike Women’s Spring Rally Statement Dress as designed to make players look like they have a “Scarlett O’Hara waist,” referencing the Gone with the Wind protagonist.  The cornflower blue coloring is subdued for Serena, as fans are using to seeing her in dramatic hues and bolder designs. The conservative attire for the Australian Open is meant to evoke a retro vibe, in honor of Nike’s 40th anniversary. The new Air Max Mirabella 3′s finish off the outfit.

Let us know what you think of the collections and who your money’s on down under.
