INTERVIEW:

What’s your first sports memory? Singing the national anthem at the Angels v Dodgers baseball game.

What do you love most about surfing? Every time I go out in the ocean to surf, I don’t know what to expect.  The ocean is spontaneous like me.  I love how surfing always challenges me.

Describe a perfect day.  Waking up to the smell of coffee; eating bacon & eggs with hashbrowns for breakfast, hanging with my family and best friends at a bbq in the afternoon.

Can you tell us a little about the different styles of surfing? what’s your favorite and why?
Graceful: very fluid and smooth; Power: fluid but displaces a lot of water and tears apart waves;  Progressive: constantly trying new tricks relating themselves to the skating world; Big wave: charging the biggest waves they can find; Hybrid: mixture of all styles fluidity, power and progressive. This is my favorite surfer to watch.  I also enjoy watching graceful longboarders.

What kind of board do you use? Any other shoutouts for gear? I use Stamps & Jeff Bushman surfboards, Dakine leashes and traction pads, Sexwax and Toyota’s Tacoma gets me around to where I need to go.

Top health & fitness tips to help your athletic performance?  Consistency, Commitment and Progression.  Never focus on just one part of your body.  Always focus on the whole body for workouts.  For health, everything in moderation except for drugs.  Never good to overdue anything that you do.

What has been your biggest competitive accomplishment so far? Future goals? Winning my first World Tour event at Dee Why earlier this year and being the U.S. Open champion at the age of sixteen.  My future goal is to be World Champion!

What was the best piece of advice you ever received? From who?  Believe in yourself and stay true to yourself.  There are always going to be naysayers.  Stay focused on your goals and never give up.  Anything can come true with belief, hard work and courage.  Jim Caviezel says this to me every time I see him.

Do you have any causes or charities that are close to your heart? I am an ambassador for B4BC (Boarding For Breast Cancer) and their Be Healthy. Get Active. Ride! campaign to encourage girls to do just that and have fun with it along with early detection.  Since everyone is aware of cancer, this is one step further to call them to action and prevention. I am also a SurfAid ambassador.  SurfAid focuses on improving the health, well-being and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions.  I recently participated in a SurfAid contest in Malibu that raised $60,000.

Superhero or Princess? Who do you identify with most?  Superhero for sure!

What makes you Pretty Tough? I am no talk. I am all action.  My actions speak louder than words.
Complete these sentences:

Success is … being the best that you can be and putting it all out on the table with no regrets.

Happiness is … being comfortable in your skin, being who you are and enjoying life.

My greatest fear is … losing my family.

My biggest challenge is … conquering my dream of being a world champion.
