Louisville continued their Cinderella run to defeat Cal 64-67 and punch a ticket to the championship game. A short time later, UConn rolled over Notre Dame, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Irish, in an attempt it win an eighth NCAA title.

Six-foot-four freshman forward Breanna Stewart poured in 29 points in an amazing performance, leading the Huskies to an 83-65 win over Notre Dame in front of 17,545 at the New Orleans Arena.

“Given the stage, and what was at stake, I don’t know that I’ve seen any bigger, way bigger,” said UConnciach Geno Auriemma. “I know there have been NCAA tournament games where we’ve had individuals play great tournament games, but I don’t remember a player having a better game in this environment, certainly not a freshman.”

The victory thrust the 34-4 Huskies into Tuesday night’s NCAA championship game against fellow BIG EAST member Louisville – a new and unexpected team to make a Final Four appearance.

The championship game will be broadcast Tuesday night from New Orleans.
