katy perry roarThere’s been a big uproar against Katy Perry’s single “Roar” in Cincinnati. The Bengals will no longer enter the field to Perry’s tiger-themed hit after complaints from fans on social media, team representatives said.

The pop star’s ”Roar” blared over the Paul Brown Stadium PA during introductions last week and the lyrics seemed to fit right in with pumping up a football team.

“I’ve got the eye of the tiger, the fighter, dancing through the fire, ’cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me rooaaarrrrr/Louder, louder than the lion, cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me rooaaarrrrr.”

But backlash from fans forced the NFL franchise to quickly reconsider its pre-game playlist.  Twitter followers mocked the choice and complained the song was not tough enough and not appropriate for the “manly” sport of football.

“Pregame is where the most angst came from,” Jeff Berding, the team’s director of sales and public affairs, said. “Fans have an expectation of certain music they want to get fired up to before the game. We’re always trying new things. We have a diverse fan base and are trying to find a mix that entertains them.”

According to the team, “Roar” will still be part of the playlist, but representatives did not elaborate on frequency.

From ESPN:

A team spokesman reiterated to ESPN.com on Saturday afternoon the organization’s wishes to reevaluate how often it will play Perry’s song during home games. The Bengals are not planning to completely nix it from the overall musical rotation, the spokesman added.

“We still like the song,” he said. “We are not ditching Katy Perry. “I can’t tell you exactly when the song will play or even whether it will play at all . It’s just being moved around.”

So what song did the team play on Sunday? Instead of “Roar,” Cincinnati took the field against the Green Bay Packers to the  thumping hip-hop track, “Bring ‘Em Out” by  T.I. Yup,  the same song to which at least 25% of high-school football teams run on the field.

What do you think? Is Katy Perry tough enough for football?
