Little League sensation Mo’ne Davis, OITNB’s Uzo Aduba, activist Christy Turlington Burns and singer Debbie Harry were among those who posed for Harper’s Bazaar’s Women Who Dare series. In the magazine’s profile of Davis, 13, the young pitcher talks about being a girl playing the usually all boys sport of baseball:
“Most want to hit against me, just to say they got a hit,” she says shyly. How often does that happen? “Not very often. Maybe at the end of the game when I’m tired, but that’s pretty much it.”
Though she’s fantastic at baseball, basketball is actually Davis’ first love and she is probably (though not officially wink, wink) being watched by the University of Connecticut’s basketball coach Geno Aurieama (who called to congratulate her after she pitched a shutout in the Little League World Series).
Whatever sport Davis chooses, she will pack the seats and, no doubt, bring the game home.
What makes a daring woman? Vision, commitment, style—and a total lack of fear according to the Harper’s editors. Who else would you add to the list?
