Last May, Pretty Tough Team Rider Hannah Trimble suffered a broken C6 vertebra during the U.S. Open at Diablo Free Ride Park in Vernon, NJ. Competing in one of the biggest races of the season this was a vicious and difficult injury to bear. Read Hannah’s race report and learn what the ordeal was like for the young rider.
So what has Hannah been up to since her accident? As it turns out, quite a bit. Under strict orders from the doctor not to race trails for at least three months, , Hannah thought…Why not try a triathlon? A true competitor, Hannah trained diligently and did okay on the running and riding segments but it turns out swimming is not her thing. Still, she plans on spending more time in the pool and competing in another tri soon.
Getting back on a bike for a downhill race was Hannah’s goal and this winter’s Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals provided just the opportunity.
“Many people tell me that I am foolish for continuing to ride after breaking my neck at the beginning of summer. Some think that I am brave and admire me for getting back on the bike. I’m not sure if I think it is courage or stupidity when I attach the race number to the handle bars of the machine. I had this intense feeling inside of me that I wasn’t meant to quit, the passion I have for the sport cannot be silenced and shouted inside my head all summer as I struggled with my handicap.”
