Sports Granny: My love of sports

I got my love of sports from my dear Mother.

I was born and lived just outside of Pittsburgh until I was 12 years old. I can still remember coming home from school and finding Mom listening to her beloved Pirates game on the radio. I recently talked to a former neighbor who Sports Granny Lois Hellig can remember on a hot summer day, with all the doors and windows open, hearing Mom loudly vocalizing her approval or disapproal of what was happening with the game!

When we moved to central New York, Mom had to follow the Yankees but she still loved her Pirates. She'd watch on TV but as her eyesight was failing she would listen to all the games on her small radio.

Mom passed this love of sports on to me and my two sisters and most of her 11 grandchildren.
