There is something about the spring NCAA Championships that make them truly special. It is Memorial Day weekend which also means time for the Final Four in men’s & women’s lacrosse. This year the men play in Foxboro, Massachusetts and the women in Towson, Maryland. In addition, the NCAA baseball regional sites were announced earlier today. The final game between UCLA and Missouri determine the last spot in the 2009 Women’s College World Series (running from May 28th until June 3rd).

If you haven’t watched the Women’s College World Series in the past, I would highly recommend you make some time for it this year. I started watching about five years ago. I turned on the television and it just happened to be on; I have been hooked ever since. The pitching is incredible and I believe that the pitcher is more important in softball than in baseball. For example, one pitcher will pitch in multiple games on the same day. Megan Langenfeld from UCLA (17-2 with a .99 ERA) pitched in the first, second, and is slated to start in the third game against Missouri. Her .99 ERA is only good enough for eighth in the nation. I do not understand how someone can throw a ball underhanded between sixty and seventy miles an hour! Hitting the ball is another story. The bases are only sixty feet apart and getting on base is very hard. Left-handed hitters often start running as they are swinging just to be able to get a head start to first base.

The pace of the game is very quick, and doesn’t allow the viewer to get bored. I really encourage people to watch and see how incredible these athletes are. I am looking forward to another good week!
