- In case it’s in need of reminding, the WPS championship game will be held on Saturday at 4PM EST between the WNY Flash and Philadelphia Independence. More interviews and features to come before then.
- Here’s a link to Jeff Di Veronica’s piece in the Democrat and Chronicle on the WNY Flash’s perfect mix of characters.
- There’s no new content yet, but the WPS playoffs have earned top billing on espnW’s home page.
- The men’s draw occurred today, but the draw for the 2011-12 UEFA Women’s Champions League happened on Tuesday. Here are all the match-ups in full:

- Among the notables, defending champions Lyon should have little issue seeing off Romanian side Olimpia Cluj, likewise with Arsenal and FC Bobruchanka. Turbine Potsdam look to have a nice route to the quarterfinals while it looks teed up for possible Rayo/Arsenal re-match in the same round. The Staebek/Frankfurt match-up is probably the most interesting of the bunch.
- Caroline Seger will be joining Damallsvenskan side LdB Malmo and could be eligible to appear for the club as early as September 4. Nothing has been decided for the following season, however. Malmo are currently joint league leaders along with Umea. The Damallsvenskan season will wrap up in mid-October. This will be Seger’s first stint at the club. She perhaps won’t be the only WPS player – or indeed WNY Flash player – to make the jump to Sweden this offseason.
- All recent NCAA results can be viewed here.
- There have been several international friendlies recently. Yesterday France defeated Poland 2-0. Highlights for non-U.S. viewers can be viewed here. On Sunday Scotland cast aside Switzerland 5-0. Julie Fleeting, Kim Little, and Jennifer Beattie had a goal apiece. And on Tuesday Scotland defeated Belgium 1-0 with a 3rd minute goal from Fleeting.
- This weekend will feature the final matches of the inaugural FA WSL season. Come from behind leaders Arsenal and upstarts Birmingham City have already secured 2012-13 Champions League qualification and will now duke it out for the league title. Just one point separates the two sides. Both sides will face the two lowest finishing teams in the leagues. Birmingham City will need a win away to Doncaster Rovers while Arsenal will look up to lock up the title away at Liverpool a.k.a. the Atlanta Beat of the FA WSL.
- Tom Sermanni has named the 20-player squad that will represent Australia in AFC qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Sarah Walsh and Thea Slayter missed out on the World Cup due to injury, but both will return to the fray. Ellyse Perry, Leena Khalmis, and Casey Dumont missed the cut. The Matildas’ opening match will be on September 1 against North Korea.
- Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, and Alex Morgan will take part in Bank of America’s “Let’s Run Together” program as part of the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The event occurs October 9.
