Yes! Player of the Week, for sure!
With the Maryland Capitols’ season done and with no member of the MWSJA attending the final Chesapeake Charge match of the season, we decided it would be unfair to put together a full list of players. However, Lianne Sanderson’s 3-goal, 1-assist performance in the DC United Women’s two playoff matches makes her the obvious choice for overall Player of the Week.
Chesapeake Charge honorable mentions: captain and central defender Jess Hnatiuk, and goal-scorers Marisa Kresge and Cheyenne Skidmore. Skidmore was the leading goal-scorer this season with four.
DC United Women honorable mentions: Would you believe that no players from DC made the All-W-League team? Well, maybe that’s because this team relies on everyone to contribute, not just a few. And this list is going to reflect that. Players who contributed significantly in the two playoff matches include: goalkeeper Didi Haracic; defenders Maddy Brown, Jerica DeWolfe, Marisa Abegg, and Molly Menchel (1 assist); midfielders Holly King, Hayley Siegel (2 goals, 1 assist), Ashley Herndon (1 assist), and Joanna Lohman (1 goal); and forwards Tiffany Brown and Mikaela Howell.
We’ll decide following the W-League Final Four if it makes sense to have Players of the Week at that point.
Previous Players of the Week:
Week 1: Didi Haracic, GK, DC United Women
Week 2: Mikaela Howell, F, DC United Women
Week 3: Alexis Prior-Brown, F, ASA Chesapeake Charge
Week 4: Mikaela Howell, F, DC United Women
Week 5: Ali Andrzejewski, F, Maryland Capitols FC
Week 6: Mikaela Howell, F, DC United Women
Week 7: Molly Menchel, D, DC United Women
Week 8: Lianne Sanderson, M, DC United Women
Week 9: Hamit Schwarz, GK, Maryland Capitols FC
