Jade Kovacevic Will Be Hoping To Lead LSU to Their First Win Over Memphis Since 2007
LSU vs Memphis – 8:00 PM
Different year, different circumstance for Memphis, who figure to be more likely to be in a bubble battle rather than a quest for a high national seed. The Tigers lost a lot of their bite in the offseason with graduation and players spending the first few weeks on international duty. Gradually, Memphis has been able to piece a promising young side back together, and the results showed with a narrow defeat to Oklahoma State last week. Of course, getting everyone pulling in the same direction may still be a bit of a challenge, as could be seen with the Tigers struggling to put away Vanderbilt on Thursday. The C-USA side is lacking for big wins right now, with few opportunities left on the docket to make a big impression in the RPI. That being said, Memphis would be best served by taking out some bubble rivals down the stretch, and that begins on Monday with LSU. The home side are one of many SEC clubs that will be depending on a strong league season to make up for an uninspiring non-conference campaign. With little to offer in the way of quality wins and bad draws against Rice and Florida International to go with a potentially bad loss to NC State, this set of Tigers comes into Monday in desperate need of a result. The problem is, Memphis has had LSU’s number in recent seasons, with the Bayou Bengals unable to avoid defeat against their opposite number since 2007. For that to change, they’ll need to get some more production from an offense that has been more miss than hit far too often this season, including in Friday’s 0-0 draw with FIU. With a showdown against powerhouse Texas A&M looming over the horizon, LSU needs as much momentum as possible heading into the league season.
