The first of a nine-part series giving what little details I can find/what I know about the camp invitees for each club. Let’s hope Portland and Seattle get rosters out…

Boston Breakers

Katerin Castro – F – Sundsvall (SWE) – Colombian international last seen in the second tier of the Swedish league. Experienced at international level, but scoring record is not great.

Tori Christ – GK – Cornell – The longest of longshots. Vastly undersized at 5’4″, and started for just a season and a half on a really bad Cornell team. Was second choice this year too.

Michelle Cruz – D – Portland – Draft stock tumbled after missing half the season through injury. Was an absolute stud in 2012 though with five goals and six assists. Logjam at left-back though, meaning odds aren’t great.

Kimika Forbes – GK – Maine-Fort Kent – Trinidad and Tobago international was a star at tine USCAA college, helping her side to a national title. Would consumer an international slot though, so she’s probably another longshot.

Hanna Gilmore – MF – Chicago Red Stars (Baylor) – Underdog hung around with Chicago for the first few weeks of the season unexpectedly last season. Team short on attacking midfield depth, so she’s got a shot.

Ashley Grove – F – WNY Flash (Maryland) – Persistent if nothing else. Made it as an amateur player with the Flash after being a supplemental pick for the club last season. Steep odds given the corps of forwards she’s battling again.

Jess Hurtado – MF – Jacksonville – A few years removed from a good but not great career with the Dolphins. Was on the periphery of the Colombian Olympic team as well but a tall ask making this roster.

Meghan McMahon – F – Oklahoma City – Another small school stud. May have peaked a bit too early with twenty-seven goals as a junior before slipping to sixteen this past season. A project with upside worth keeping an eye on.

Katie Oakes – MF – Cal – Sister of infamous WPS bust Jill Oakes. Former U23 international and highly touted prospect but never rose above being just very good at Cal. A longshot despite lack of central midfield depth here.

Suzane Pires – MF – Southern Connecticut State – Brazilian! Scored eleven goals for a bad Southern Connecticut State teams as a senior en route to NSCAA Third Team All-American honors. Would consumer an international slot but might be worth developing on the reserve team.

Jamie Pollock – MF – Georgia – Another a few years removed from end of her college career. Central midfield tweener capable of operating as an attacker or holder but might be a jack of all trades but master of none. May not be dynamic enough to make it at this level.

Dominique Richardson – MF – Barry University – The other Dominique Richardson. This one is a Bermudan who overcame multiple ACL surgeries to be a lower league standout. International status, injury history, and lack of big game experience count against her, but would you bet against her given all she’s overcome?

Laura Weinberg – F – Duke – The poster child for occasional brilliance. Looked like becoming one of the nation’s best forwards as a junior with sixteen goals and twelve assists. Saw her draft hopes vanish after dreadful senior season though, with just five goals on seventy-seven shots. Could be a great find with right coaching.

Rachel Wood – D/F – HK/Vikingur (ISL) (UC Irvine) – Tough as nails vet who battled colitis at North Carolina to win a ring with the Tar Heels before finishing her career at UC Irvine. After a stint in Iceland, getting a chance stateside. A massive figure at 6’0″ who loves to play forward but probably has to make it at center-back here.
