FC Kansas City

Molly Dreska – MF – Maryland – Employee from Sporting Kansas City of MLS made it through tryouts for the second straight year. Local status obviously helps out if the club needs an amateur player but faces a steep climb towards a regular roster spot considering club’s numbers in midfield

Missy Geha – MF – Kansas – You may know her as the color commentary voice on FC Kansas City broadcasts. Not particularly a standout on the playing field, but it helps to have a reliable option if need be on heavy international days. Doesn’t figure to get much run otherwise though as club has tons of midfield options.

Caroline Kastor – F – Kansas – Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Great junior season, so-so senior season. Looked like a solid prospect for the 2014 draft after eleven goals as a junior but tailed off to an inefficient six goals on fifty-eight shots this past year. Judging by the results of her first two seasons, I’d say 2013 was more representative of her overall skill. Faces a hard road to a roster spot here.

Sara Keane – GK – West Virginia – Former U.S. youth international enjoyed a solid, if not unspectacular, career with the Mountaineers. Long injury history early in her career a worry, though she’s been healthy recently. Doesn’t possess great athleticism and struggles in traffic sometimes, but might round into a decent backup, though perhaps maybe not here.

Stephanie Rose – F – HJK (FIN) (UNC Wilmington) – Was a killer at college level with mid-major UNC Wilmington before heading overseas to ply her trade with HJK in Finland, netting a modest five goals in fourteen matches. Odds look steep given her competition up top, but has a ghost of a chance considering those rivals haven’t proven their prowess consistently.

Emma Stevens – GK – Nebraska – More proof that in many respects you’re only as good as the backline in front of you. At least at college level. Played the role of a target in a shooting gallery in 2011 & 2012 as her defense in front of her was plainly bad but turned into one of the region’s top netminders as a senior. Size is borderline, but she may have more upside than Keane when all is said and done.

Stephanie Thompson – MF – Evansville – Club already has one MVC alum on their roster, and Thompson will be looking to make it two after a strong career with the Purple Aces. Made a big leap after her sophomore season to become one of the league’s best players. Not particularly efficient with the ball. Long odds given competition in midfield.

Shelina Zadorsky – D – Michigan – Probably a victim of the league’s restrictive rules dealing with internationals. Why? Good question, as she was the rock at the heart of one of the nation’s best defenses and was previously captain of the Canadian U20 team. Had nine assists as a senior as well. FCKC needs defensive depth and has international slots available, what’s not to love?

Best Bets: Zadorsky, Keane (if Santiago remains injured)
