I had Carli Lloyd in my side this past round (Good). I also captained Kim Little and picked Hope Solo and Sydney Leroux (Not So Good). I finished (probably) with just above a hundred points and behind many of you if your gloating is to be trusted.
This round? No Spirit and two games for Portland and Chicago…against each other. Lumping your side with Portland players is probably going to be a popular option, but the Red Stars excel in keeping teams from playing and are going to be equally desperate to save their playoff hopes. Still, you have to have a few from each this round.
Player thoughts will be shorter than usual, as I have a barbecue to prep for.
Fantasy NWSL Team Rankings – Round 13
1. POR
2. SEA
3. CHI
4. FCKC
5. HOU
6. WNY
7. SBFC
8. BOS
Portland
Morgan – Going to be a very popular option this round but put up just 3.5 points against FCKC showing her mortality. Might look elsewhere if you have a lot of ground to make up, at least as far as a captain’s concerned.
Angerer – Should get two matches and figures to have a good chance at a clean sheet in at least one of them.
Vero – Probably won’t put up outrageous numbers but seemingly a fair bet for 10-20 for the round if she can avoid being kicked to bits.
Sinclair – No points against FCKC and could be back to scraps with Morgan’s return.
Heath – Yeah, she’s here, but what’s her role? There’re a lot of balls in the air here. I’d steer clear for a round, at least.
Marshall – Who knows what Riley’s doing with his defense these days, but Marshall seems like the only safe option to get maximum minutes.
Seattle
Little – Was disappointing this past round, but Boston’s perfect opponent for a bounce back.
Naho – AKA the safe option. Was hit on the weekend and miss last time out but very rarely puts up bagels.
Solo – Boston fifth in league in goals scored but looks like a win + handful of saves possible, hopeful clean sheet.
Rapinoe – Extremely risky pick. Will she go more than an hour? If Reign get up by a few goals, will she be rested? Will she again come off the bench? Rewards tangible but not without serious risk.
Fletcher – Duh. Start her. Profit.
Fishlock – If there’s a time to load up on Seattle midfielders, this might be it, so she’s a viable option but not immune from a clunker.
Leroux – Was utter pants for fantasy owners this past round with six points over two matches. Always a chance of a breakout against her former club, but you wanna bank on that?
Goebel – Great game in midweek and has a great matchup but may be a case of too many options around her.
Chicago
Press – Insert Cliche About Class Being Permanent. Figures to, at least, shoot a lot and is bound to hit the scoreboard sooner or later.
Johnston – Less for clean sheets, more for potential points on set pieces. Still the top option defensively regardless of odds of shutout.
Chalupny – Less reliance on her this year good for team but not fantasy owners making her a borderline pick.
LeBlanc – I don’t trust them against Portland’s offense, but if you do, she’s an option in goal. Will have many save chances anyway.
Bywaters – Shown a little quality in front of goal, but Dames’ erratic lineup shuffling makes her hard to trust for fantasy.
Leon – Could be good, could be awful. Allocation status hurts her cause, though she looks to be in favor for a starting spot.
FC Kansas City
Barnhart – If there’s ever a week to start a single game keeper…
Holiday – Heating up after a big showing last round against Portland. SBFC’s erratic defense could be ripe for plucking.
A-Rod – Did little in her past two matches. Is she fading? Matchup’s certainly right but definitely other options this round.
Robinson – FCKC defense has five clean sheets in six games. You want her in your lineup? You want her in your lineup.
Tymrak – Not a top option but not bad if you’re loading up on FCKC players this round.
Houston
McCarty – Had been on fire before but pitched a bagel last round and better options available.
Klingenberg – Should get the start and be a decent attacking threat but may not be worth it given allocation status.
McLeod – Defense improving in front of her but not a great matchup in terms of clean sheet potential.
Ohai – Inconsistent as you might expect but Flash defense not the stoutest.
Burger – Hit or miss but matchup’s decent.
Masar – Could get scrappy with Flash midfield meaning she’s a risk to pick up a booking.
WNY Flash
Lloyd – Great in double game situations when she has two bites of the cherry but mercurial form could be a liability with WNY having just one game this round.
Vicky – Safer option in midfield a decent bet for 5-15 points but probably won’t drift higher.
Kerr – Disappointing this past round but is the top option up front with Wambach still out.
Taylor – Houston offense up and down but so are her teammates on backline, limiting her value.
Williams – See above, and there are better options this round.
Sky Blue FC
O’Hara – Club will lean on her for offense but matchup is a nightmare.
Cameron – Could be making a lot of saves, but do you really want to bet against FCKC right now?
Cutshall – I don’t fancy a clean sheet this round, but she’s the one on D you want if you do.
Freels – Been great this season but not the week to roll with her against Buczkowski.
Boston
O’Reilly – Huge game against Washington and taking penalties but hard to tip her against league leaders.
Reeves – Makes things happen up top. Predatory speed makes her very dangerous, though this isn’t a great matchup.
Ezurike – Erratic but with potential, though she may find it hard to muscle Deines and Fletcher around.
Naeher – Going to be making a lot of saves probably. Still, avoid.
