Sometimes it seems as if our friendly neighbors to the north aren’t really foreigners. But apparently Canadian players count against the international cap. Still, we celebrate our WPS-based canucks as our own (Sydney Leroux notwithstandings).

And two Canadians are enjoying banner seasons this year. Christine Sinclair has been lethal for FC Gold Pride tallying eight goals and seven assists in 16 games played this season. Her teammate Candace Chapman has also been a huge factor in FC Gold Pride’s success. Her contributions at central defense has helped the team’s defense become the best in the league.

Karina LeBlanc and Erin McLeod may not be having such brilliant years (KK has seemingly been benched in Philly and McLeod injured her ACL two weeks ago) but both goalkeepers are funny people so that kind of makes up for it.

Canada is also home to many WPS fans. Don’t ask me to prove it because I can’t but just take my word for it, ok.

Considering the recent on-the-field and off-the-field successes of the W-League’s Vancouver Whitecaps, imagine what would happen if Canadians had a WPS team of their own.

But alas, that’s merely food for though.

Canada; our friends, cultural kin and teammates. Unless we’re talking about the Gold Cup of course.
