Cal's Megan Jesolva Will Be A Busy Bear On Saturday

Cal vs Stanford (6:00)

Can we all collectively shake our fists at the Pac-10 scheduling computer or human monolith? With Morgan on international duty in Cancun, we’re deprived of a mouthwatering matchup between the likely #1 pick in the WPS draft and another certain first round selection in Christen Press of Stanford. While we’re lamenting Morgan’s absence, Cal might be agonizing over facing their heated rivals without their talisman. With three matches left, the Bears are teetering on the edge of the bubble and haven’t looked too good without their star striker. Not many stars have looked too good against the Cardinal and their all-around talent. With Cal unlikely to win a shootout without Morgan, it will likely be up to Megan Jesolva and the Bears defense to cage Press and the other Stanford attackers. It’s an assignment most sides have failed thus far. But it’s a derby match and the Bears would love nothing better than to spoil the undefeated season of their heated rivals and lock up a place in the NCAA Tournament.

Atlantic Sun Quarterfinals

The Skinny:

The story of the ASun Tournament may be less a matter of who’s there than who isn’t. Florida Gulf Coast won the league title but is ineligible for postseason play due to NCAA reclassifying rules, as FGCU is completing the transition to Division I. With the league champs done for the year, Jacksonville enters as top seed, breaking the dominance emanating from the state of Georgia in a league that has been the plaything of Kennesaw State and Mercer in the past. The imprecise arbitrator that is the RPI says the top seeded Dolphins should be overwhelming favorites, but don’t be surprised if someone emerges to upset the order.

(3) North Florida – (6) Stetson (7:00)
(4) Kennesaw State – (5) East Tennessee State (7:00)

Horizon League Quarterfinals

The Skinny:

What once was a foregone conclusion is now a big mystery. Previously thought of as likely runaway champs, Wisconsin-Milwaukee slipped to two defeats in league play, losing the league title and top seed in the process. The Panthers should still be considered odds on to emerge from the league tournament, but if the firepower of Sarah Hagen and crew doesn’t win the auto bid, they’re all but assured of missing the NCAA Tournament. #1 seed Butler is something of an anomaly, a league champ with a record under .500 at 8-10-0. Then again, the Bulldogs defied the odds of winning the league title in the first place, so who’s to say another upset is out of the question?

(3) Cleveland State – (6) Detroit (5:00)
