Looks like we’ve got ourselves a tussle at the top of Group B, guys. Paraguay and Colombia went in to today’s matches tied on points behind group leaders Brazil. They finished today’s matches in exactly the same position after some pretty sizable victories over the group’s cellar dwellers.

Colombia put Venezuela to shame 5-0 with five different goal scorers. Paraguay was equally as destructive, netting four against Uruguay. Venezuela has already been eliminated.

Colombia has the upper hand as they have played one game less than Paraguay. Colombia’s 3-0 defeat of Paraguay in the group’s opening match did Las Guaranies no favors either. The team has reportedly been preparing for this competition since September, two months after the team’s surprising semifinals finish in the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Unlike Paraguay, they’re also used to playing at altitude.

Colombia will qualify to the final group stage if they pull off an unlikely upset against Brazil on Thursday. Otherwise, Paraguay will be forced to try their luck against Marta and co. on Saturday. Their World Cup ambitions would depend on it.
