  • The USWNT earned another win against Norway in today’s spate of Algarve Cup matches. The victory ensures another final appearance for the team. Lindsay Tarpley and Carli Lloyd each scored a goal in the 2-0 victory. The team will face Finland next week, presumably only for target practice. (Japan hammered Finland 5-0 today).

  • The USWNT has apparently discovered a rich vein of form, particularly after the team’s 2-1 win over Japan on Wednesday. Highlights below, in case you’ve missed them. Aya Miyama’s goal is a peach.

  • Stats time! With the Norway result in mind, the USWNT haven’t lost a game in the Algarve Cup since the team’s 3-2 defeat to Sweden on March 18, 2004. That’s 27 consecutive games without a loss.

  • The USWNT have a perfect record against Finland which includes 13 wins, zero losses, zero draws and includes 42 goals scored and two conceded.

  • The USWNT have only conceded ten goals since the 2005 tournament. That’s 19 clean sheets in 27 games.

  • In other Algarve Cup results, Iceland continued its “hey, look at us” ways with a 2-1 win over China. The team treated Sweden to a shock on Wednesday with the same score line. Sweden, meanwhile, bounced back against Denmark and ran away with a 2-1 victory.

  • And due west of Portugal, the Cyprus Cup had a few surprises of its own today, namely England’s 2-0 loss at the hands of Scotland. This is apparently the first time England have lost to Scotland in 34 years. Arsenal duo Kim Little and Jennifer Beattie stunned Hope Powell’s side (a side which featured eight changes that beat Italy on Wednesday). The FA’s match report has all the gloomy details.

  • Canada escaped with another 1-0 win, this time over Italy. New Zealand recovered from its 4-1 stomping courtesy of the Netherlands to defeat Switzerland 2-1. Mexico earned another draw, this time against South Korea who beat Northern Ireland comfortably on Wednesday. The Netherlands also continue their fine form with a 2-1 win over World Cup-bound France. Camille Abily scored an equalizer after an early Dutch goal before Manon Melis broke the deadlock in the 73’.

  • Updated results and standings and more reaction from both tournaments will be posted later tonight.

  • Canada will also host the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The 2012 edition will be staged by Uzbekistan, replacing original hosts Vietnam. The 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be played in Costa Rica.

  • On Tuesday the USWNT U-23’s won the Four Nations tournament in La Manga, Spain. The team came back from being 2-1 down against Norway and scored two quick successive goals in the final 13 minutes to claim victory. Here’s a rundown of the minutes/goals/assists that each player contributed. You’ll notice all the WPS’ers.

Fowlkes 270, Edwards 270, Reed 270, Wells 270, Nogueira 270/2 goals/1 assist, Klingenberg 265/1 assist, Henninger 180, Hagan 171/3 goals/1 assist, Henderson 167/3 goals, Winters 157/1 assist, Farrelly 132/2 assists, Schoepfer 113, Wright 102, Franch 90, Ochs 80, Brooks 75, Marshall 74, Bethke 54

  • Rumor of the day: Brazilian WNT player Maurine is set to play for the WNY Flash. The Flash have the maximum of six internationals in the squad already so we’ll see about this.

  • Also, the Brazilian WNT was called into camp yesterday. Marta and Maurine weren’t called up but Daniela was. Daniela has been laying low since that horror Abby Wambach tackle in 2009.

  • On the college front, the NCAA has opted to keep its men’s and women’s NCAA College Cup weekends and host sites separate.

  • 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup personality and perhaps China’s best female player Sun Wen tells FIFA about her new coaching gig, preparing for China’s new women’s league and what she expects to see from the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

  • DFB President Theo Zwanziger says ticket sales for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup are on track to ensure the organizing committee will break even.
