The Cheesesteaks’ no. 10 checks in with her second blog of 2011. Lianne discusses life ahead of preseason training and a certain unfortunate occurence in NYC.
Welcome back to my blog. I know most of you have been unable to sleep at night due to the anticipation of this and me in your life
. So here I am.
Thank you to those of you that took the time to read my first blog and those that have given me your thoughts on the blog and the website. I really appreciate it.
I’m now back in full training. We arrived two weeks early before preseason starts to get settled into life back in Philly and move into our new apartment. It’s been a great decision to do this as playing and moving etc. could get tricky in between our coach Paul Riley’s two-a-days.
We moved into the new apartment last Monday. Our landlady Hollie is so nice and kindly has everything here for us. Now for people like Jo and I this was important and helped us a lot, as neither of us really like shopping, well apart from me for clothes haha. I’m going to try and stay away from King of Prussia this year.
Well now I’m no longer living with Fridur Magnussdottir I may be more disciplined. That girl could open her own Apple or electronic shop.
We had so much fun last year and I will miss her a lot but I’m glad we will be teammates again.
We arrived back at USTC last week. It was fantastic to see everyone that works there again and it’s like we have never been away. Training, ice baths, nothing has changed. USTC is such a nice place and a friendly environment to be able to train in. We were so happy to be back. We trained there mostly everyday last week. Our fellow Cheesesteak Danesha Adams joined us last week. She is currently recovering from a knee operation so Joanna Lohman and I enjoyed a really productive week of training with our newest recruit Danesha.
We enjoyed getting settled into our new apartment. Something I also enjoy doing is cooking. Fridur will tell you I would cook us spaghetti bolognaise last year until it came out of her ears haha.
Joanna and I stocked up on plenty of food and household goods last week at a wholesalers which was fun. We have enough food to last us 5 years…
Thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes via facebook, Twitter, etc. – I really appreciate it. I had a great birthday in New York. We went to watch Jersey Boys which I must say was if not the best thing I have seen at the theatre. Maybe it had something to do with it being on Broadway but seriously the guys are so talented and I would say an absolute must see either in new York or London’s Soho.
We walked around New York for awhile. I met up with one of my best friends Anita Asante who now plays for New Jersey’s Sky Blue which was great. It was the perfect weekend. We stayed in an apartment opposite Central Park in Manhattan thanks to Jo’s aunt and uncle.
One story I think made us laugh and will probably make you laugh. We were in Niketown and were trying to find out how to get to where Anita was so we persisted to stand outside Niketown looking at a map forgetting it was raining/snowing. Then a taxi drove towards us to pull over just in front of where we were. We did not see a huge puddle before we read our map so Joanna and I got completely soaked. I tried to grab Jo to get her out of the way. We were soaked in the middle of New York City. It was one of those moments you have to laugh at or you will cry but we both saw the funny side. So when we arrived to see Anita we were kind of soaked. But luckily we were on 5th Avenue where there is an Abercrombie and Fitch store so we went in there to dry off.
I love Abercrombie but it’s the most bizarre shop. It’s like a nightclub. Everybody that works there is a model practically. It’s dark so you can’t even see what you’re buying. You’re shopping with Lady Gaga blaring out in the background. I find it hilarious and so surreal. I still love that store though…
So in a week from now we will be back with all our Cheesesteaks and everyone from the Independence. It’s so exciting…
I will check in with you soon…thanks for reading : )
Much love Lianne xx
