On paper it was going to be a barn burner, and Jessica Aguilar (in Black) and Carla Esparza (in black and pink) didn’t disappoint.
The two slugged it out, took it to the mat, and everywhere in between at Bellator 46 at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL Saturday night. At weigh-ins these two were friendly, but once the cage door shut, it was all business. Takedowns, low kicks, and boxing combos from both fighters kept the action heated in what was called a war by many on hand to see it.
With Aguilar’s hometown crowd behind her, JAG took a split decision victory over Esparza 30-27,28-29, 30-27. Aguilar goes to 11-4 and Esparza 5-2.

According to Gal’s Guide to MMA, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated that the fight will either be posted online this week or aired at the next event. Rebney also stated that he was still undecided about the women’s 125 pound tournament for the fall; despite the fact he just signed top 125 pound Jessica Eye a few weeks ago. He is also talking to a few more fighters in the division to join Bellator’s 125 pound ranks. (You got to think Roxanne Modafferi and Cat Zinagno are on that list, but that is speculation at this time.)
No female matches are scheduled as of yet for the rest of the summer season, but there is a rumor that Eye will be making her Bellator debut at Bellator 48′s card at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. on Aug. 20.
