Grappling world champion Sheila Bird went 2-0 by defeating Kim Couture via submission at AX Combat 1 in Calgaray Friday night.

Bird and Couture exchanged heavy shots to open the first round.

After the clinch, Bird was able to gain side control, getting in some strikes that bloody Couture.

Bird was able to secure a leg scissors to choke out Couture.

Even though Couture tapped out, the ref failed to notice and Couture was in the choke for another 10 seconds becoming unconscious. It took the fans and a member of the Calagary Athletic Commission to get the ref to stop the fight. Couture was spasming and unconscious for at least another 30 seconds.

Couture regained consciousness and seemed okay. She walked out under her own power.

Bird ends up winning at 1:48 of round 1. She wins submission of the night honors.
