Kaufman Punches Out a Win
Experience and boxing were the keys for the former Strikeforce 135 pound champ Sarah Kaufman to gain a unanimous decision victory over Liz Carmouche Friday night in Vegas.
The first round saw a pummeling battle against the fence for most of the round, with Carmouche giving up her back momentarily, but was able to keep the fight on the feet. In the last minute, Kaufman started to land punches more efficiently than Carmouche. 10-9 Kaufman.
The second saw more boxing by Kaufman, with Carmouche’s takedown attempts being stuffed. Carmouche’s nose became bloody and a blackeye soon followed. 10-9 Kaufman.
The third saw Kaufman sprawling on Carmouche, while laying body jabs on Carmouche. Kaufman continued landing boxing combos in a stand up battle. 10-9 Kaufman.
All three judges saw it the same 30-27 to giving Kaufman the unanimous decision victory. She is now 14-1. Kaufman will most likely face the winner of the title bout between champion Marloes Coenen and Miesha Tate July 30. Kaufman has a win over Tate, and lost her title to Coenen last year. Kaufman stated she has a preference.
“I want Marloes Coenen to win,” Kaufman stated post match. “I want to take that title back. I want to avenge that loss. And I hope the fans want to see that!”

This has nothing directly to do with this post, but saw this article on the front page of cnn.com yesterday about the future of women's mma and figured I would link it somewhere.
Good to see some of the mainstream press is starting to chime in on this. I think eventually Zuffa will see the value and find a way to pressure UFC to include a female division. It will take time to grow, but can't see any reason why at least one women's fight shouldn't be scheduled on the major PPV cards.

I read the article and Ben has hit it on the head. Like Miesha tate said, Zuffa is holding a higher standard for the women to the males because if a female fight fails to live up to expectations then the whole division is a failure. The good news is that Strikeforce is signing some of the best talent in the 135 pound division, which is the most populated one right now. Figuring that Miesha vs. Marloes will be FOTN if Davis vs. Kedzie doesn't take it.
