Former news editor of “Fightergirls” MarQ Piocos has been covering Women’s MMA for over three years, having picked up coverage of wrestling, boxing, and grappling. Since the ownership change came earlier this year, Pro-Elite has been striving to bring itself back to its prominence in 2008. Pro-Elite brought women’s MMA to the masses with Gina Carano in 2007.
For the rebirth of the promotion, they will be in Hawaii Aug. 27 with Olympic wrestler Sara McMann facing hometown fighter Raquel Pa’aluhi; which will be streamed live on Sherdog.com.
Looking forward, Vice President of Fight Operations T. Jay Thompson told Ariel Helwani on MMAFighting.com that they are currently looking for a TV deal with several networks, and hope their next event in early November in Atlantic City, NJ will be televised.
With that in mind, Thompson stated that he would be interested in getting former Strikeforce champ Marloes Coenen on the card. Coenen has been a hot commodity since she was let go by Strikeforce, getting offers from several European promotions. Her home gym, Golden Glory, is also doing events. With Pro-Elite, Coenen could be more flexible in dealing with other companies, fight more, and gain more tv exposure.
Obviously Pro-Elite and Coenen’s management are just in talks, and Coenen is enjoying her time off from the cage.
