A major point of contention surrounding Women’s MMA in the Zuffa company centers around Strikeforce and the relationship with Showtime. Showtime’s deal with Strikeforce ends February 2012 with an extension available until June. UFC Presdient Dana White did an interview with Ariel Helwani this week stating that Zuffa co-owner Lorenzo Fertita has had meetings with Showtime in New York.

White stated he didn’t have any particulars about the meeting, but stated Zuffa was happy working with Showtime, and extending their relationship is something they are interested in doing. He expects to have an update this coming week. Showtime is very high on female fighting, so if the deal does go through, Zuffa will continue to have a female division.

White also discussed the Golden Glory situation, stating that any of their fighters are welcome to come back to Zuffa. Although a lot of the facts aren’t exactly clear why Zuffa cut fighters like Marloes Coenen and Allastair Overeem, quite obviously business difference are the reasons rather than personal.

Zuffa is strict when it comes to their fighters competing outside of Zuffa, be it MMA, kickboxing, and grappling. With Golden Glory set to expand their MMA cards, access to their top stars will be null when it comes to fighting under the GG banner if they were signed to Strikeforce or UFC. Coenen does have more options not working for Strikeforce, but only time will tell if she will be returning.

We know now that it is still a possibility, though.
