An interesting turn of events has happened this week, as the Ohio MMA’s Facebook announced that 155 pound Philly native Andria Caplan will be making her pro debut at Bellator 54 Oct. 19. The location is yet to be announced; but rumor is it will be in Philadelphia.

Caplan (3-1 amateur) is the wife of Bellator matchmaker Sam Caplan, but has proven herself a strong fighter on her own; being a marque player on the Ohio MMA scene.

The signing of Caplan brings an interesting question. Is Bellator starting a 145 or 155 division? Bellator is not in the habit of signing talent without using them in a tournament. Free agents like #2 Unified ranked bantamweight Marloes Coenen and #1 Unified ranked featherweight Cyborg Santos would also be great editions to the Bellator roster, with a tournament with either or both a ratings grabber. It is yet to be known if Caplan will be staying at 155 or dropping to 145.

There is also a rumored 125 pound women’s tournament in the works in the spring, as #10 Unified ranked Superflyweight Jessica Eye has been signed and is rumored to be fighting on Bellator 51 in Canton, OH Sept. 24.

Only time will tell if either or both tournamentss will happen in the spring.
