Get Ready for It: Blackeye Promotions Signs Marloes Coenen

Wombat sports is dedicated to women in combat sports. After leaving Strikeforce, Marloes Coenen has found a new home at Blackeye Promotions, signing a three fight deal.

Coenen made the announcement Friday night of HDNet’s Inside MMA (video), and is expecting to fight for the promotion in February.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to be part of Blackeye Promotions, as they have an honest passion for the sport and are genuinely committed to building a platform for women in MMA,” Coenen stated. “Equality for women in this sport is a cause close to my heart and important to the generations of women fighters that will compete after me. I am happy to be signed with a promotion that not only supports this quest for equality, but is dedicated and committed to making a difference.”

Blackeye Promtions issued a statement earlier today.

All of us at Blackeye Promotions are proud to welcome Marloes Coenen to the Blackeye WMMA Division.

Ms Coenen is the first female fighter signed to the Blackeye WMMA Division. We are honored to be working with Ms. Coenen and her management Golden Glory as we gear up for the inaugural 2012 season of the Blackeye WMMA Division.

Ms. Coenen has had a successful career as a top level female MMA fighter and not only brings her elite talent as a fighter to the Blackeye WMMA Division, her exemplary character and enjoyable personality is representative of the quality of female MMA fighter we are looking for to be a competitor in our WMMA Division.

Ms. Coenen will enter the Blackeye Cage in early 2012 to not only to face the challenge of a worthy opponent, but she will be making history by creating a path for all female MMA fighters to follow toward their aspirations of being a Blackeye World WMMA Title Holder.”

Blackeye will be hold it’s next card Oct. 1 in Fletcher, NC. Coenen will be in attendance.
