Ann-Marie Saccurato

Valentina Shevchenko

Lightweight boxer Ann-Marie Saccurato is getting thrown an 1-0 challenger in boxing, but this isn’t any ordinary boxer.

Saccurato will face three time Muay Thai champ Valentina Shevchenko Dec. 9 in Shevchenko’s home country of Peru for the vacant WIBA Lightweight title.

Saccurato (15-6-2) lost a technical decision her last time out versus Erica Farias in August. Shevchenko is only 1-0 in boxing, but this past weekend got a decision win at the Muay Thai Premier League in the Netherlands.

Although she has a great record in Muay Thai, female boxing pundants and fighters are up in arms over Shevchenko getting a title match so early in her boxing career, and more importantly, not being ranked. Shevchenko was supposed to fight previous WIBA champ Melissa Hernandez, but Hernandez literally threw the belt in the trash, refusing to defending the title against Shevchenko.

No word on if this fight will be broadcast.
