Lincoln-Douglas. Nixon-Kennedy. Rousey-Tate?
Ariel Helwani had his hands full this past Monday on the MMA Hour as rising MMA star Ronda Rousey and current Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate debated whether the two should meet now or wait for Rousey to get more experience.
The discussion went from experienced fighters versus hype to the way the sport is marketed. Rousey was frank in stating that a fight between herself and Tate would draw more viewers than a fight between either of them and Sarah Kaufman (arguably the #1 contender for Tate's belt) because of their looks. Tate disagreed that attractiveness should be a part of the decision, while Rousey claimed that she was just being honest about how the game is played. Both disagreed on how the match would affect the division as a whole.
Sarah Kaufman joined Helwani post-debate and discussed where she stands and to the comments about her looks retorted very matter-of-factly, "I'm ready to smash Miesha's face, and I think that can be marketed as well as me smashing Ronda's face."
It’s quite a listen, and a must hear for the women’s sports community.
