Angela Magana

Carla Esparza
By Rob Sargent – MMARising.com
A 115-pound women’s title bout between Carla Esparza and Angela Magana is in the works for MEZ Sports: “Pandemonium 6,” which takes place on March 3, 2012 in Riverside, California. The promotion officially announced plans for the matchup earlier today and verbal agreements are in place.
Esparza is coming off of one of her more impressive wins to date in her Xtreme Fighting Championships debut earlier this month. She outwrestled Felice “Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig to earn a Unanimous Decision victory. Magana has won five of her past six, with two quick submission wins this year.
Esparza (6-2-0) is widely regarded as one of the top female wrestlers in mixed martial arts and she has demonstrated marked improvement in her striking in recent bouts. That was never more evident than in the fight with Herrig, which saw Esparza outstrike her foe at times with quick punching combinations. The 24-year-old has maintained an active schedule since transitioning to MMA and her lone defeats have come against top-ranked opponents Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii and Jessica “Jag” Aguilar. Now looking for her second straight victory, Esparza will have an opportunity to add the newly-created Pandemonium 115-pound women’s title to her mantle.
Magana (11-4-0) also stayed very active during the first two and a half years of her career and fought six times in 2009; a stretch that included a run to the finals of the HOOKnSHOOT/GFight Women’s Grand Prix and a win over heated rival Aguilar. Magana sat out much of 2010 until the filming of the ill-fated Ultimate Women Challenge reality show. Following her September 2010 UWC bout, she struggled to find opponents but managed to secure a pair of fights this year that saw her use armbars to submit Elsie “The Sweetheart” Henri and Avery Vilche in a combined time of just over three minutes. She has finished eight of her opponents to date and possesses a solid submission game.
MEZ Sports: “Pandemonium 6” takes place on March 3, 2012 at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside, California. The bout between Esparza and Magana will be contested for the inaugural Pandemonium 115-pound women’s championship.
