The Strikeforce fighters came out in full effect on the last day of the WMMA Awards. Champion Miesha Tate, Alexis Davis, and Ronda Rousey all came to accept their awards. Featherweight champ Cyborg Santos was also honored with “Fan Favorite Fighter of the Year”.

You can listen to the winners accept their awards on the Wombat Podcast here.

If you missed out on the rest of the awards you can find Day 1 here, and Day 2 here.

Female Bantamweight (135) of the Year – Alexis Davis

To many in the WMMA world, she is a familiar face; but this year the general MMA world got to know her. She has faced some tough competition in the past and making her Strikeforce debut against one of the top veterans in the sport wasn’t an easy task. With a solid win over Julie Kedzie and a devastating TKO over Amanda Nunes, she is now one of the top contenders for the Strikeforce Bantamweight title.

Submission of the Year – Miesha Tate defeats Marloes Coenen via Arm Triangle Choke

This was a tough category this year with many devastating and historic submissions; but one stood out to be a game changer in the 135 pound division. This submission took place in July, and Miesha not only made Marloes Coenen tap for the first time, but won the Strikeforce 135 pound title.

Fight of the Year – Patricia Vidonic vs Chelsea Colarelli

This was one of the toughest categories for the committee to decide on. All the nominees had a great chance of winning the award, but one battle in particular stood out to the committee. It happened Oct. 1 at the Blackeye Promotions card, which gained it fight of the night honors from the promotion as well. Although it only went two rounds, each minute was action packed.

You can watch video of this fight below:

Fan Favorite Fighter of the Year – Cris “Cyborg” Santos

She is the baddest woman on the planet; but also the Fan Favorite Female Fighter of the Year, and for good reason. Many fighters sight her as a role model for fighting; and made a huge comeback to the cage laying out Hiroko Yamanaka in only 16 seconds. You would be hard press to find a fight that could match with her. Besides fighting, she also was kind enough to hold a seminar for the G2 this past summer to help the future fighters in the sport.

Female Newcomer, Featherweight, and Fighter of the Year – Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey has made the biggest impact in women’s MMA and MMA this year. And it only took under 5 minutes in the cage to do it. She is the master of the armbar, and has been stirring things up at the media outlets everywhere. This undefeated 4-0 fighter and Olympic Bronze medalist in judo will hopefully keep the momentum going in 2012 as she drops to the talent filled 135 pound division.

She also won the most awards this year; with three.
