Valenzuela & Rodrigues

As more and more stories come out about female MMA fighters, Nat Geo takes a different look at the growing sport.

Film this past summer, Nat Geo’s show “Taboo” followed amateur fighter Jill Valenzuela as she prepared for Maine’s first ever female MMA fight. Fellow fighter Tisha Rodriques was also featured; helping train Valenzuela and giving her take on the sport.

What makes the show different from other profiles is that they dive into society’s qualms and ideas of what it means to be a woman and how females in fighters are challenging conventional thought.

The show airs Tuesday night Jan. 17 on Nat Geo.
