With Sara McMann’s stock on the rise, ProElite has got a lot to think about.
With her win versus #5 ranked Hitomi Akano, McMann can rest assured she is on her way to the upper echelon in the 135 division. The big question is whether she will be getting a call from Strikeforce. If not, a showdown with the winner of Shayna Baszler and Kelly Kobold at April’s CFX card is apparent (Source); hopefully crowning a ProElite 135 pound champ in the process.
If McMann does leave, this doesn’t mean the end of the bantamweights in ProElite. With Raquel Pa’aluhi and Hitomi Akano already signed, those two would make a great contest down the line.
Who to sign next? The first one we would recommend is Sheila Bird (2-0). Although she came from a grappling background, Bird’s striking is particularly dangerous, and is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the sport. Both of her pro wins were brutal first round finishes.
Others to consider are Kaitlin Young (5-5), who is currently ranked at #10 in the division. Julie Kedzie would also be a great grab, with Vanessa Porto rounding out the other ranked fighters not signed.
Ultimately, the ball’s in matchmaker Richard Chou’s court. With the promotion’s commitment to female fighting and the DREAM partnership, expect some more exciting matches in 2012.
