Sandra White MSP
If you didn’t catch our article last week, Scottish Parliament member Sandra White had stated that she was against having a female MMA fight in Scotland; siting it was “degrading to women.”
Local fighter Joanne Calderwood, who is looking to be one of the first females to fight MMA in Scotland, invited White to come to the gym and see what MMA was all about. White excepted.
White visited Calderwood’s home gym, Griphouse MMA, this past weekend. According to an article in the local Scotland newspaper, she seems to gained a lot more respect for the sport.
“It was a very constructive visit and good to hear the views of those in the gym,” White commented. “The dedication, fitness, and passion of everyone at the Griphouse was surely impressive.”
Calderwood will be facing kickboxer Noelia Molina Feb. 12 at On Top MMA 4 in Glasgow, Scotland in the first ever female MMA bout in the country’s history.
