After four months of talking the talk, Ronda Rousey backed up her words.

Rousey was able to secure an armbar to champion Miesha Tate in what was her longest fight to date. The tap came at 4:27 of round 1 to win the belt. Tate fought to the bitter end but it wasn’t enough. No word on Tate’s condition when it came to her arm; which was at least dislocated.

“I didn’t feel in danger at any time. Figured Miesha would stall out in dominant positions,” Rousey stated at the post fight presser. “Miesha impressed me. She’s tough. That hurts. I’ve had my elbow dislocated, no fun. Rule in judo, no tap, keep going.”

Sarah Kaufman post fight

In what was the fight of the night on the Strikeforce card, #3 Unified ranked Sarah Kaufman got a majority decision victory over #4 ranked Alexis Davis. The two blasted each other standing for the first two rounds, both getting cut in round 1. Round 3 saw Davis take the ground battle after Kaufman won the striking game in round 2. One judge scored it a draw while the others gave the nod to Kaufman with 29-28 each.

Kaufman is the most likely candidate to face Rousey in her first title defense.

“I like to strike. Based on my face, I also like to get hit,” Kaufman stated. “Ronda hasn’t been hit by someone who can strike like me.”

Strikeforce announced May 19 as their next card, which will feature Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier in the Heavyweight Grand Prix final. It is expected that a female match will also be on the card.
