Omaha will host a stacked card of MMA this Saturday, with six female bouts including two pro fights.  On the amateur side, featherweight fighter Tera Carper will take on Mercedes Timmerman.

Carper (2-2) is looking to gain a winning record and gain some momentum in her ammy career.

We talked to Carper about her match and her career ahead.

Wombat Sports: You are coming off a loss to Tamikka Brents. Did you learn a lot from that match?

Tear Carper: The fight with Tamikka was hands down toughest match I’ve had to date. No opponent has ever put me in a position to where I couldn’t wiggle out of it. I defently learned a lot from that fight, I was trying to be patient and wait for an opening and well it never came (lol). By the time I decided to make my move, it was too late. Tamikka was defiantly the stronger, faster opponent in this match. I always try to take a lesson form every fight win or lose. I can’t progress if I never learn anything.

Wombat: The featherweight division is one of the hardest hitting, especially in the amateur division. How do you feel your career is progressing there?

Carper:  Featherweights have defiantly become one of harder hitting divisions since I started fighting. When I had my first fight, there was hardly anyone around, and now its grown to have some awesome talent. I feel as long as I can challenge myself to be the best fighter I can be and work hard I can make my mark on the division as well.

Over the years I have defiantly grown as a student in MMA, watching old fights where I was then till now you can see me evolve from a girly cheerleader to a more technical student who has a bit of cheer flair when I fight (lol).

W.S.: There is a solid amount of women on the Disorderly Conduct card. What does it mean to you to be a part of this?

T.C.:  Disorderly Conduct did a great job with putting this card together. With the attention women are getting now in MMA with the Invicta cards and Strikeforce and even the Olympics , I feel so blessed to be part of a card the will showcase what the Mid-west has to offer in talented women fighters.

W.S.: You are facing Mercedes Timmerman, a debuting fighter. What do you know about her, and is there any difference in your preparation?

T.C.: Mercedes Timmerman what do I know well next to nothing. Since she is a debut fighter there are no videos to watch to do homework on, but I look at her like I do every opponent. I don’t listen to the hype (if there is any) and I only focus on what I bring to the table. I don’t care what your bringing. I’m not giving you a chance to play your game; you will only play mine.

My preparation is almost always the same keeping focused on what I do best and learning from my mistakes in past fights and I defiantly do not under-estimate any opponent. In this game the underdog can come out on top under the right circumstances.

W.S.: Anyone you’d like to thank?

T.C.: God for helping me stay focaused and giving me the strength and courage to keep fighting the good fight. My wonderful husband for supporting me and pushing me to train. Also my wonderful training partners Lauren Barefoot, Summer Aurtherton and Sarah Mcleod.

My best friend Christina for helping me keep my weight in check by telling me “NO!” when I have moments of weakness in food. My coach Tony for being wonderful and pushing me to be better.

All my sponsors - Max Muscle, Omaha OutLaws, Rule 11 , Metro Shield security, Screaming for Silence and of course my awesome manger Kirk of Hollowpoint Combat Sports for all that you do.
