Brace For War’s All Female card is a huge opportunity for flyweight Sarah Morrison.

After dropping her first two pro fights, she is hoping to get an impressive win over Australian boxing team stand out Bianca Elmir Oct. 27. The fight will also be seen worldwide on the Brace for War website, which could see more opportunities for the 125er.

We talked to Morrison about training for her upcoming fight and what the future holds for her and WMMA in Australia.

Wombat Sports: How did you get involved with MMA?

Sarah Morrison: My original disciplined is kickboxing, which I competed in for a year before having a year off to work to build a business. I got started in MMA because I was still hungry to compete and wanted more of a challenge in new disciplined, so I decided to give MMA ago after seeing a few of the boys I’d trained with in the past take a liking and i thought why not? This actually looks fun and I can do this too.

Wombat: You are coming off two losses as a pro. Have you learned a lot from those matches?

Morrison: Yes definitely. Considering I train 2-3 times per week in MMA, as this is the only time I can commit to at this point in time due to financial restrictions and that I live two and a half hours away from my gym IgorMMA, my coach felt that we needed to work a little more on the ground aspect of my game as this was what had let me down.  Our focus from the last two fights was to train more on
the ground with my attacking and submissions.

W.S.: What does it mean to you to be a part of this all female card?

S.M.: Alot :-) This is such a growing sport and to see Australia and the world take females’more serious in it is huge! Its not just a male dominant sport and I’m definitely here to make that clear and demonstrate that a woman can throw downand fight/compete just as good as the guys…if not better!

W.S.: How do you think this will affect the female fight scene in Australia?

S.M.: I like to think that it’ll encourage women to take action in things they believe in and pursue there goals whether its to be a fighter or to be whatever they desire. Believe in yourself and go for it.

W.S.: Having the ability to see your fight all across the world, are you hoping that opportunity will give you chances to fight worldwide?

S.M.: Yes:-) I would love the opportunity to compete overseas. This is at the top of my goal list.

W.S.: What can you tell us about your opponent?
glasses

S.M.:  My first one had to pull out due to a neck injury and in saying that I hope she is having a speedy recovery.

My new opponant is an Olympic qualifying boxer and has a few titles, with kickboxing experience as well. from that info i basically jumped on the opportunity and accepted the fight because i knew she’d be a tough opponent and I want that challenge.

W.S.: Anyone you’d like to thank?

S.M.: I like to firstly thank my gym, team mates and sparring partners at IgorMMA Bondi for there constant love and support.

My coaches Igor Breakenback, Tai, Igor Prap for there knowledge and  helping me to become the fighter I want to be. My friend/crossfit coach on the central coast Scott Archer for all of his support over the  last few years.

My sponsors ASN Bondi for welcoming me to their team and for their support Fightbreed for the training and fight gear
PrecisionInk.com.au for hooking me up with my rib tattoo and the many more to come.
