#4 Unified ranked batnamweight Miesha Tate is set on getting refocused and more well rounded as she is hoping to regain the Strikeforce 135 pound title from Ronda Rousey. In order to do that, Tate has stated she is taking the rest of the year off.

After the loss of her title, Tate was able to rebound against Julie Kedzie (ironically getting the win via armbar), but she felt it wasn’t enough. So, she decided to take a step back and work on her weak points. Also to get her mind focused.

“The break has helped me tremendously,” Tate told Wombat Sports. “I feel refreshed and ready to train again. I miss it and that feels really good.”

To re-ignite her passion, Tate has taken a trip to Brazil. It has been so fruitful, she wants to be a world champion in submission grappling. In fact, she wants to face the best BJJ specialist in the world, Kyra Gracie.

“I want to develop all aspects but I really have a lot of love for submission wrestling,” Tate continued. “I want to be more widely respected for my grappling skills so I intend to train more in that area and become the best grappler in the world. That’s my goal!”

“I’d like to face Kyra Gracie in a grappling match, she is widely respected by so many as an amazing grappler and I’d love to test myself against her, for me it wouldn’t be about winning or losing against her, it would be about learning.”

Besides training, Tate in taking in the local flavor and using the time to slow things down a bit.

“Here in Brazil, I have met some great people, made some new friends and I have experienced a whole new culture! I really like it here, and believe I will be coming back in the near future for longer! I’m determined to learn Portuguese now lol! As for the training, I have learned quite a bit more about the gi and I am setting my sites on some grappling competitions in the near future!”

Tate plans to return to the U.S. by the Holiday season. A return to the cage isn’t expected to happen until early 2013.
