It’s not official as of yet, but everyone is 99.9% sure that women are coming to the UFC in 2013. With Ronda Rousey being the first to sign on the dotted line when that time comes, many fighters on the international scene has also become interested in the story.

The Protugese News MMA site did an interview with three fighters to get their reaction to the breaking of the UFC glass ceiling.

Maria India

Team Nogueira fighter and Brazilian bantamweight Ana Maria India states it was inevitable.

“I never had any doubt that this would happen,” Maria stated. “(Dana White) has no alternative, because the evolution of the sport would want it. Our workouts are equal to or even harder (than our male counterparts), and we train as equals. Our mass explosion is different. Our desire to overcoming is immense. For me, what is happening today is simply the future of the sport. As the Women’s boxing was not in the Olympics before, they have no alternative but to let the higher level women come in. “

Gadelha

Undefeated Brazilian flyweight Claudia Gadelha sees the boom in competition as a reason for expansion as well.

“The UFC needs a sufficient number of high level athletes to open categories,” Gadelha explained. ”Even the male category of 125lb (57kg) was slow to join the organization just by the low number of athletes. But the female MMA is growing much out there and now Dana saw that yes we able to give real concerts for the public and the number of athletes has increased with the opening of Invicta and other events coming giving enough emphasis to female MMA outside.”

Gadelha, even though she fights at 125, states she would be willing to go up in weight if given the opportunity to join the UFC.

“It’s time to work! Came the opportunity to fight Strikeforce this year, but the category 135lb (61kg), two categories above me and I was forced to deny the invitation, if you knew you’d be stepping into the octagon world’s most famous so fast it would have to contend with the risky larger fighters. But everything is in God’s time, he knows what he does. Now is train hard and wait to see what will happen.”
