MMA Awards Seasons Breakdown – Where to Vote and Who Has Already Won

Wombat sports is dedicated to women in combat sports. Former news editor of “Fightergirls” MarQ Piocos has been covering Women’s MMA for over three years, having picked up coverage of wrestling, boxing, and grappling. It is his vision to bring some of the best coverage to help bring and promote the ever expanding popularity of women’s MMA, wrestling, and martial arts with some of the best writers and athletes.

With the end of 2012 in a few days, it means that MMA Awards season is in full swing. With more and more sites giving away honors, here is the breakdown on who was won so far, and where you can vote for your favorite fighters.

The WMMA Awards

For the forth year, the WMMA Awards are the longest running awards dedicated to female fighters. While most of the awards are voted on by committee, voting is still open for the Fan Favorite Award which include 24 nominees.

Real Women’s Awards

The Real Women’s Awards not only cover MMA, but fitness, and bodybuilding as well. You can vote on multiple categories including Matchmaker of the Year and “2013 Will be Their Year” awards.

BJPenn.com Women’s MMA Awards

This is the first year of the BJPenn.com WMMA Awards, which has 13 awards including Role Model and Broadcaster of the Year.

Fighter’s Only Awards

What has become the Oscars of MMA Awards has seen Ronda Rousey gain the most nominations since their inception. InvictaFC also has two niminations, including best promotion and Leading Man (should be person) of the year. Only got until Dec. 31 to vote.

MiddleEasy Awards

One of the more fun awards to vote on, MiddleEasy.com has some of the most inventive categories. Rousey has four nominations (WTF Moment, Staredown, Photo, and Frate Train) and Amanda Nunes is up for “No-Tap Submission” of the Year.

Texas MMA Awards

The Best of the Lone Star State are being recognized by TXMMA.com and you can vote for your favorite Female Fight and fighter of the year. Paige Van Zant is also up for Rookie of the Year, and Upset of the Year. Michele Drake Brown is also up for Referee of the Year.

Ohio MMA Awards

It was an action packed year in the Buckeye State as is reflected in the Ohio MMA website. Jessica Eye is up for three awards, including Pro Fighter and Sub of the Year. Sara McLeod vs. Amber Ignatowski is also up for Fight of the Year.

Florida MMA Award Winner

Jessica Aguilar was awarded Florida’s Female Fighter of the Year a few weeks ago. The #1 ranked Strawweight will hopefully see action this spring.

Australian MMA Award Winners

Many of the Australian Awards are already out with multiple female winners.

On the heels of it’s first all female card, BRACE for War honored several of it’s fighters with Honors. Shauna Carew got both Fighter of the Year and Fight of the Year (in her match with Gina Cardillo); while  Alex Chambers get KO of the Year.

Aussie fighter and current InvictaFC title challenger Bec Hyatt took home a Fighter of the Year Award at the Oceania MMA Awards.
