St. John

Braekhus

In an interesting turn of events,  WBC champ Cecilia Braekhus will be taking on Mia St. John in Denmark April 13. This after the WBC demanded that both Braekhus’s and Holly Holm’s management come to an agreement on a possible match this year. Albuquerque ESPN radio broke the news Sunday.

Since Braekhus will not be available to fight, Holm has decided to take her game back to the cage as she is set to take on a yet-to-be-named opponent at Bellator MMA Feb. 28. Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.

Braekhus (21-0 boxing) has successfully defended her belt 11 times, the last time against top ranked Anne-Sophie Mathis. St. John (47-12-2 boxing) is coming off a decision loss to Tiffany Junot. No word on if the the match will be televised or streamed in the U.S.

Holm

Holm’s management wasn’t too happy about the decision, but Holm (2-0 MMA) wants to fight, and Bellator is a big opportunity to gain a new audience. In her last bout in MMA, Holm Koed Jan Finney via a body kick in September 2011. In boxing, Holm defeated Diana Prazak via unaimous decsion this past December. Holm The match will either be streamed or televised on Spike.

The winner of St. John vs. Braekhus could be Holm’s next boxing challenger.
