After weeks of speculation, undefeated Katie Merrill will be the opponent for boxing champ Holly Holm’s return to the MMA cage Feb. 28 at Bellator’s event in Rio Rancho, NM. The announcement was reported by Albuquerque’s ESPN radio Thursday.
Merrill (1-0) won her pro debut via armbar this past November against Kaline Medeiros. In her pro and ammy MMA careers, she has yet to see the third round.
IBA/WBF boxing champ Holm (2-0 MMA) last MMA match saw her defeat veteran fighter Jan Finney via a body kick KO in 2011. Holm has stated she plans to focus more on her MMA this year due to lack of opponents in boxing.
The fight will stream live on Spike.com Feb. 28 as a part of their preliminary coverage.
