As we suspected in the MRS rumor mill this week, Sarah Kaufman is signed to the UFC. She confirmed her status on the BJPenn.com radio.

“I don’t know how long [the UFC will allow female fighters to fight for Invicta] and it depends on how the UFC’s women’s division goes but Shannon Knapp has a great relationship with both Dana White and Sean Shelby. I’m on loan from the UFC to Invicta right now,” Kaufman told BJPenn.com Radio.

Kaufman brings the total of UFC announced female fighters to seven, with three yet to be announced. The UFC are looking to sign five more. Kaufman is set to take on Leslie Smith at InvictaFC 5 on April 5.

The idea of the UFC sharing talent is unheard of before the advent of their women’s division. The UFC’s male fighters only fight for the UFC exclusively. It was about a decade since the policy was enacted. Even when the smaller weight classes in the male divisions came in, which many are just as big as the women’s bantamweight division, this policy held true.

The relationship of the UFC and Invicta, however, is of mutual benefit, and the two are not competing against each other directly. Invicta is a great gateway for the UFC to scout talent in one location. Although we may never see UFC President Dana White in person at an InvictaFC card, know that he maybe watching for new talent.
