It was no surprised that Ronda Rousey got her 7th pro armbar victory Saturday night at UFC 157. What was a surprise was Liz Carmouche coming the closest to submitting the UFC champ.
Carmouche was able to take Rousey’s back standing and apply a tight neck crank early on. After several minutes, Rousey would eventually shrug her off. With Rousey standing and Carmouche on her back, Carmouche would try for a heel hook, but Rousey would spin out of it to a headlock. After some ground and pound, Rousey would try for her signature armbar. After fighting it off for a bit, Carmouche would succumb and tap at 4:49 of round 1.
The card officially sold out according to UFC Presdient Dana White, and was pleased with both fighter’s performances in the first ever female bout in UFC history. The gate was $1.4 million with 15,525 watching it live.
Rousey will most likely face the winner of #4 Unified ranked Miesha Tate and #9 ranked Cat Zingano, who will fight on April 13 at the Ultimate Fighter Finale in Las Vegas.
