Wombat sports is dedicated to women in combat sports. Former news editor of “Fightergirls” MarQ Piocos has been covering Women’s MMA for over three years, having picked up coverage of wrestling, boxing, and grappling. It is his vision to bring some of the best coverage to help bring and promote the ever expanding popularity of women’s MMA, wrestling, and martial arts with some of the best writers and athletes.

In ammy action Friday night, Gina Begley (now 3-1) defeated the previously undefeated Shannon Culpepper (now 3-1) by submission (guillotine) at 51 seconds of round 2 at RFA in Denver.

We announced last week that Colleen Schneider and Sanja Sucevic will going head to head at the Super Fight League this coming Friday. We learned this week that this will be for the company’s first ever 125 title.

The card will stream on the SFL Youtube channel at 7:30 a.m. pacific/10:30 a.m. eastern this coming Friday March 29.

An all female amateur MMA card was announced this week for May 18  in Mexico, Missouri. Gladiatrix Rising has announced three bouts:

  • Mary Rouse vs. Bobbie Bedard for the 125 title
  • Brittany Fiegener vs. Hannah Zeciri
  • Amanda Ayers vs. Nora Hamilton

More matches are yet to be announced. The promotion are also looking for fighters. You can contact the promoter on Facebook.

In her first ever Gi grappling tournament, InvictaFC strawweight champ Carla Esparza got silver this past Thursday. She faced Judith Enerle in the finals of the blue belt featherweight division at the Pan Jiu-jitsu championships in Irvine, CA. Enerle would edge Esparza in the match to win gold.

Rumors

Names have started to pop up on who could be auditioning for the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. They include former pound for pound best fighter Tara LaRosa and EliteXC vet Tonya Evinger. Sarah Moras has stated she will be definitely trying out.

Two strawweight fights are going on in Texas Saturday.

Paulina Granados (pro debut) will take on Sarah Lagerstrom (0-1) at Rocks Extreme MMA in Corpus Christi, TX, while Amber Stautzenberger (1-1) faces Ashley Allen (pro debut) at XKO in Arlington, TX.

Also Saturday, Tuff-n-uff MMA vet Rachael Cummins makes her pro MMA debut against Margaret Aase (1-0) at Pandemonium MMA in Pomona, CA.

In the featherweight division, Pannie Kianzad (3-0) faces LJ Adams (1-0) at Heroes Fighting Championship in Halmstead, Sweden.

On Saturday, Tuff-n-uff returns to Mesquite, NV with three female bouts. The car will stream live for $9.95 at UStream.com.
