Starting last year, R-Awakening has dedicated themselves to promoting women in martial arts by offering sponsorships and marketing. This past weekend, they took it one step further in crowning their first two Muay Thai champions in Penzance, Cornwall, UK.
R-Awakening teamed up with Touchgloves Gym to hold the Muay Thai event, which featured both men and women kickboxers. Seven of bouts featured female fighters from all over the United Kingdom.
In the main event of the evening, Lucy Payne of Cornwall defeated Tanya Merrett of Wales by unanimous decision for the initial 57 kg belt. Amber Kitchen (daughter of Muay Thai Star Julie Kitchen) won the Junior 54kg title getting the decision over Bethany Barrett of Ireland.
