Wombat sports is dedicated to women in combat sports. Nixon Courtesy Princess of Pain
In New Zealand over the weekend, the all female Princesses of Pain promotion held a kickboxing card, which included an one night tournament to find a contender for POP champion Michelle Preston.
It was Gaela Nixon who took the unanimous decision victory over Freya Thomson in the main event to be crowned the 55 kg tournament champion. Nixon would get a unanimous decision over Melissa Lu in the quaterfinals and a doctor’s stoppage over Bonnie Porter in the semi-finals.
Seven other tournament bouts also happened, including Wendy Talbot defeating Mel Mackey by unanimous decision.
The POP will be back in the fall for an all-female MMA card.
